Cara McDonald Of 5280 Magazine -Good Print Media Has To Fit Your Demographic

BrokerIPTV : Today we are talking with Cara McDonald, Deputy Editor of 5280 Magazines and thanks to with us.

Cara McDonald: My pleasure.

BrokerIPTV : What opportunities are there for realtors with 5280?

Cara McDonald: We definitely do, I am having a steady stream of realtor's advertisers, we have lot of readership those are very interested in this, even people mode in the market. So, there is different varying page rates and sizes, there is also call up opportunities to pull together in a market place type advertising situation, as well as special sections running, when we run our real estate issues, which is annual editorial content and then there is an opportunity to buy in and post as an advertisement a profile of your own - yourself as a realtor and your business.

BrokerIPTV : I didn't think 5280 for real estate advertising, when I first got in. I actually talked to some agents in my office who said "hey, I have good success advertising in the 5280," because I think every body thinks you guys is like lists, the best this and best that, is that difficult to maneuver around?

Cara McDonald: Well, I think that is the very good point to make about the presumption, we always do the best this and best that. Doctors, restaurants, schools, dentists, we are known for that, but it not always do and the magazine has ground significantly in the last five years. We are also doing award winning Investigative Journalism and very national caliber writers are writing essays and very perform wonderful work is going in to the magazine as well and that is the good news for realtors, because that is attracting a very high level, very literate, very plugged in leader.

BrokerIPTV : Which is really the answer on why 5280 over say a lux or another different type of luxury home magazine?

Cara McDonald: Well there are lot of time magazine in Colorado, 5280 happens to be one of the older more established. We have been in this business 15 years, we having overall leaders of close to quarter-of-a-million people. We are the top selling Colorado magazines in Colorado and we are among the top five magazines sold in Colorado period. So that includes Esquire, Vanity Fair, Opera and Dwell. So, it has a very broad reach and a solid reputation.

BrokerIPTV : Also you have an annual issue that you do, you just featuring real estate agents, how is that going?

Cara McDonald: We feature more than that, but it is our cover story and it is always a very very big story for us. It is been going extremely well, the real estate issue, especially as our market get tougher and more complicated, has had an increase, we have seen sales of that issue go up on the new stands. So, we know readership is very very interested, we know it is a difficult market to negotiate and even people more in the market are super curious, because things have change so much more of here in Denver.

BrokerIPTV : How does you web and your magazine work together?

Cara McDonald: That is another great question to consider with any medium. We have recently evolved with the print magazine to a very high level. We found lot of national recognition in awards and lot of regional recognition in awards and it is now time for us to turn our attention from the print, also to the web and to help it, support that.

BrokerIPTV : Final question. What do you say to agents out there, who were really skiddish about spending money in print, more specifically spending big money in magazine print?

Cara McDonald: Well you got to considered, what you are buying and again that goes back to demographics. Do not just take someones word for it, really consider the readers relationship to the magazine, the magazine's reputation, the quality. Pick it up as a reader yourself and say "I like this, I trust this, I feel good about it, it represents me, I see things in here that I get," that is going to give you a good clue, that is a good fit for you, but magazines, we definitely see, yes it is the big initial investment and it takes a little while to see that comeback, but over a time what we are noticing is we really have long term relationship with clients, we have long time relationships with the readers. They spend a lot of time at the magazine, they pass it along, they subscribe, and they are devoted to it. So that means they are likely to be more responsive the things they see in the magazine.
