In this BrokerIPTV video from the 2010 Realtor Rally in Denver, Kathy Soltero speaks with Carol Ann Wilson about the real estate divorce specialist designation.

Interviewer: Hi I am Kathy Soltero with BrokerIPTV.com. We are here at the 2010 Realtor Rally and we are joined with Carol Ann Wilson. She is a real estate divorce specialist, which has now become a designation in real estate; tell us a little bit about that.

Carol Ann Wilson: Well, you know, there are 1. 2 million divorces every year in the United States and every year, it's a new set of divorces, and these people need to either sell a house or they need to buy one, and there are certain tax laws that save them thousands of dollars that realtors do not know about and divorce attorneys do not know about. So Gregg Greenstein has partnered with myself and we have created this designation several years ago, where we teach realtors and we certify them to be a real estate divorce specialist, and they learn these tax laws, they learn how to put it together, they learn how to market themselves, it gives them an edge, it's a new niche, it increases their business.

Interviewer: Do they get contact then with attorneys and that sort of thing or their names are out there?

Carol Ann Wilson: Well there, our marketing programs that they get, gives them information about how to promote their business, how to get going with it, gives them letters to stand out, press releases and it gives them a lot of information about how to make it work for them.

Interviewer: Why is being a specialist in real estate divorce important?

Carol Ann Wilson: Well, we figure that 70% of the divorces need to either buy a house or sell a house, and if the realtors who handle that, if they have better knowledge than other realtors, it gives them the edge and they can build their businesses right.

Interviewer: Do they also train them how to be better counselors because I am sure you have to do something there when you are dealing with divorce couples?

Carol Ann Wilson: Well you talk about the emotional issues and what they can expect, yes.
