Apple Inc. said Tuesday that its new Mac OS X "Leopard" operating system will go on sale Oct. 26.

The new operating system is the sixth major upgrade to Cupertino-based Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL) Mac OS X operating system, which was first introduced in 2001.

Delays in the release were due to the debut of the iphone. It had been expected to roll out in June,
