Colorado ranks 12th in a list of states that have
the highest proportion of households with annual incomes in excess of $200,000,
according to an article in Yahoo Finance, Financially Fit. Washington D.C. has the highest percentage at
8.4 compared to 4.1 percent of Colorado households. Yahoo gathered their data from the 2010 National Data Book Statistical
Abstract compiled by the Census
Bureau.
The median household
income in Colorado came out to be $59,964 out of 1,859,965 households
reviewed. Within that figure, 76,216 households earn more than $200,000 a year.
"According to the data from the Census Bureau, there are currently 4.5 million households that earn
over $200,000 per year, the highest wealth division compiled in Census reports,"
stated the article, "which is approximately 3.8% of all households in the
country. The average income, of those making over $250,000, is $425,226"
according to the report.
The states with the
lowest percentage of $200K + incomes ranging from 1.4 to 1.86 percent,
were West Virginia, South Dakota and Arkansas.
