Google and the Real Estate Market

Google isnt becoming an exclusive MLS, they say they simply want to point searchers to any listing that is out there on the internet. Carter Maslan, Googles director of production, gave an overview of where real estate fits into their plans and companys business strategy. They are trying to become more relevant and pointed for their customers.

"What we are doing in real estate is really no different than what we are doing in other areas of local search," Maslan said. "If there's a property for sale, wherever its mentioned on the Web -- whether on "Rotten Neighborhoods" or Trulia.com -- Google wants to put those pages at users' fingertips."

With all the upgrades Google has made to their search engine many real estate agents are wondering if Google isnt going to provide listings like Realtor.com and Zillow instead of simply point to them. Google needs to be as specific and relevant to peoples natural searches as possible, thats how they make money. They place paid ads next to the results of natural searches.

Google is integrating property searches with their Google "place Pages" where searchers can find all the information Google has collected about a property listings posted by agents. In their minds, it just makes it easier for searchers.

This type of search results can become misguiding or misdirected, however. The search results can point customers to third parties websites that are not actually listing the property or do not represent the listing. Some third parties do what is called "scraping" of data, which is wrongfully taking data from the listing portal and putting it on their site. Its bad business.

Does Social Networking Really Work

The big question that everybody is asking these days, except the younger crowd, is, "does social networking really work? Of course it does! Not only does it work, but it is the future for marketing and social groups. Most people have their own thoughts as to why it works and what the ins and outs are, but despite individual feelings on the subject, it works, and it works well.

When youre watching TV you get bombarded by commercials you dont necessarily want to see, maybe you do, but its a pretty safe guess that youre not a dedicated follower of every product and every message you see on TV. Although, we get a lot of random advertising on the Internet as well, were more channeled directly into the products and messages we want to see on the Internet, that is the big difference between traditional media and social networks. Online, your customers want to see you, they choose to go to your website, to receive your RSS feed, and to get your blog posts.

Cost is another factor in todays marketing, social networks, and Internet world. Technology has lowered the cost of a great many thing. Phone service used to be costly, remember long distance fees? Barely! The Internet is also changing the way we think about TV. People are canceling their cable service in droves. You can see your favorite shows on the Internet these days for much cheaper than you can by subscribing to 500 channels of cable when you only really watch 10 or 15 channels. Why waste 485 channels of programming? Better yet, why pay for 485 channels of cable that you dont watch? The point is that social networking is free, I know I went a long way to make the point, but its important, the world as we know it is changing, and changing fast.
