Real Estate is a Whole New Ballgame

We all know that things always change, but to what degree do they change? With the modern updates to just about every industry, real estate is a whole new ballgame. Now were not so far in the future where we are flying our cars to the moon to take a tour of a potential timeshare, but things have defiantly changed.

Social media has changed the way people interact with each other in dynamic ways. Even I stay in contact with people through social networking that I would have lost contact with long ago, and Im glad I do. It may sound silly, but it has helped me maintain relationships that turned out to be important to me.

Social media has affected the real estate industry in much the same way. You get to maintain relationships with past and potential clients that you may have never been able to keep up with before social networks. If you realize how much the business of selling houses has changed, adapted to the change, and made the most of the new tools available to you business can and will improve for anyone taking full advantage of the new work flows.

Can you get Something for Nothing

loans

There have always been scams out there, and the real estate industry has defiantly had their share of scammers. Unfortunately, there have always been people who fall for the scams as well. This hurts us all in the long run. People who scam and abuse the system force higher prices, cause security issues, and create higher costs and higher insurance premiums, in any industry. There is a new one out there being flogged called the mortgage matrix which claims to reduce principles and save thousands in late fees. It's funny, but people really do think they can get something for nothing.

Buyer beware is a coined phrase for a reason, and this is one of those reasons. People like the idea of getting something for nothing, even though we know its not the way things work. These people jump at the chance to get rid of their bills and mortgage, even though they made the conscious decision to get into a mortgage, and because of this they fall into the scammers trap.

From what we understand, the new mortgage matrix is nothing more than these people going through your loan papers, much like the forensic mortgage audit, which is actually something people can do for themselves. With a little investigation, people can save themselves a lot of money, you dont need to have someone take you for hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars for something you could uncover yourself with a couple of hours of research.

Inman News Most Influential People

These Are Not The Droids You Are Looking For

Inman News most influential people is a contest they hold once a year to recognize people who have influenced the real estate industry. In fact they are recognizing 100 people, thats right, they have an annual list of 100 people they identify who have made significant contributions to the real estate market. Its time again to nominate your pick.

The gauge they use is people who have demonstrated strength, common sense, innovation, ingenuity, perseverance, and progress. Its a good list, something we should all strive to embody in our own lives. The list of possible inductees include people inside the industry and those outside the industry who contribute and impact the real estate industry in some way, kind of like me, (hint, hint, the spelling of my name is David Chambers, in case you needed to know).

What makes this year a bit different is they are also combining real estates list of most influential leaders with the most influential online personalities, including bloggers and social media coordinators like me, pretty cool isnt it? Anyway, you gotta have a little fun with this. So go to www.inmannews.com and nominate your pick for the Inman News Real Estates Most Influential Person.

Technology is Fun but never Forget About Ability

Tech toys are fun and helpful in both our personal lives as well as our professional lives, but do they or can they ever replace good old fashioned skills? We use technology more than ever these days, I write about it all the time. There are new technologies coming out every dya that makes our lives easier or at least more entertaining. We have all these games for personal use and all these amazing tools for our professional use, I wonder if we are forgetting about instincts, intuition, learned and natural skills. Technology is fun, but never forget about ability.

Another thing about technology is that it makes us focus on technology. We sometimes forget to focus on ourselves or honing our own skills, instead we focus on the latest upgrade or download. Remember, we need to upgrade ourselves too. We need a little focus on ourselves. For realtors and others in the sales business this holds true more than ever. We are faced with a lot of hardships these days and those in the people field need to keep their personal skills up to date. You cant depend on an iPad to close the deal, as cool as the iPad is, its no substitute for interpersonal skills.

I am a proponent of technology, I use it and I promote it, but I dont want us to get lost in it. It has its place and its time, and after that we should hit the power button and get back to us, to our time. All these upgrades to our industries are helpful and they will continue to be, and we should continue to use them, but always remember to keep your skills sharp, your knowledge current, and your understanding of your environment clear.
