New Technology Has Never Been More Fun

Every once in a while technology jumps forward and we all get to look on with chagrined amazement. Back in the 80s Star Wars gave us a glimpse into the future and we were all simply amazed. Dumb struck, we all looked at the screen with hopes of our own space ship in the near future, at least I did anyway. Apple Corporation has certainly given us a technological jump or two in the last decade. Looking at the iPhone and iPad, and even the iMac, it really feels as though we are in the new millennium, but our cars still have wheels. No floating around for us yet.

Well, one of those technology jumps forward is here. Its not ready for the public as of yet, but wow, its cool looking. I think it has a little ways to go, but it looks like well be floating around before you know it. This is almost better than one of those futurist sci-fi movies. The movements are what make this thing so cool. It looks like magic.

Deal Killers

Waiting on Highway 93

These days there are many deal killers out there in the real estate market. We have all seen them in the past, they have always been out there, lurking around dark corners, but today they lurk around well lit corners and often jump right out in the open. How fun for us! The real estate industry is still moving along, but there are many more deal stoppers these days then there have been in the past. I mean other than the obvious recession.

Why is it that when the market is at its most vulnerable there seems to be more problems then when the market was sound and we could easily deal with such problems? I guess that Murphy guy strikes again! Not too long ago we had much more flexibility and we could come up with creative solutions to our real estate problems. That may still be the case, but not for most, we just dont have the wiggle room we once did.

An unstable environment simply causes panicked reactions and responses from people. They dont behave normally or as they would if the environment was at its best. Unfortunately, the market is driven by emotion. We all wish it wasnt the case, but it is. We all wish logic was the biggest factor, but its panic driven emotion that affects the market.

After the Tax Credit expiration things should have simply gone back to normal, but because people panicked we experienced all time lows in the market. The government just stopped giving out something we shouldnt have had in the first place. If you could afford a home before the Tax Credit, you should have been able to afford a home after the Tax Credit. Emotion!

There are other causes of deal killers. For instance, inaccurate appraisals, greedy buyers and sellers, credit problems, these days we see more spooked buyers. There are many reasons deals fall apart these days. Lets try to keep our heads about us and use sound reason to judge the situation.

Our Modern World calls for Modern Roles

There are still some people who like traditional roles, and it works for them. Today, however, there are many people that the word traditional just doesnt fit. Our modern world calls for modern roles. Anything goes in a world that is still adjusting to so many modern advances. Our society is going through a big adjustment and people are trying to understand where they fit into it. Roles like "mother," "father," are now coupled with entrepreneur, doctorate, real estate agent, and international spy, (well maybe not spy, but you get the idea).

Today you never know what comes after "single mother," it could be "business owner, part time student, or graduate student. Titles like "father" could be followed with "stay at home dad." You just never know these days. The playing field has really changed and is changing further.

Such is the story with Stacy Scott Turner. She is a Washington D.C. real estate agent, housewife, and Harvard University Master degree holder. Some of the traditional stereotypes simply dont apply to this gal. It sounds like she stays a little busy. She is a great example of what the possibilities are these days. Like our parents told us when we were little, we can be anything we want to be. It has never been truer than today. The possibilities are endless.

Are you an Apple Person or a Windows Person

People are polarized as to whether they like the Apple computer system or Windows. The debate and polarization may not be quite as bad as it is in sports, but its sure close. How many people out there have actually worked on both systems and made an educated choice? Its kind of like religion, you are what you were raised in, not many people actually study it and then decide, "Ill be, fill in the blank."

If you started out Mac you more than likely stay a Mac person, and the same is true with Windows. There are some, however, that do convert. Again, as with religion, some do actually study the subject and make a choice from there. "Im a Mac person or Im a Windows person," they declare to the world. The debate goes on, and like with religion, passionately.

Its always fun to hear why people have decided to be in the camp they are in. Macs are better, Windows is better, blanket statements many people use. Which just means its just a system they prefer, not that there is any technical reasons for their decisions, they just like their system, fair enough. I like listening to the techies talk about both systems. What are you, a Mac or Windows person, and why?

Invest Small to see Big Payoffs

Investing 2010
Creative Commons License photo credit: thelastminute

We all hear about Bill Gates, Richard Branson, and other billionaires jet setting around the world, while the rest of us run the rat race and hope to get a little cheese at the end of the race. We somehow live vicariously through them, even if we think we will never see that type of lifestyle, but its still nice to imagine. Many of us do think that reaching some type of financial security is obtainable however. We can invest small to see big payoffs.

Many people do want more security than their jobs offer, but have no idea what else they can do, and many dont want to risk their current livelihood and dont know what else there is. Thats why many of us never leave our jobs or at least the industry we know, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, go with what you know. However, there does need to be more activity on our part if we want even a little sliver of what the jet setters have.

Is it possible to invest small amounts of money and have payoffs that are worth our time? Is it better to go to the bar or shopping with that extra 50 bucks or is it better to invest those 50 bucks? Its no doubt that the former will give us the instant gratification we are probably looking for, but will such short sightedness help our long term cause? Maybe not! There is someone who believes that investing small is worth your time and worth forgoing the short term pleasures of relieving stress at the bar or clothing isle.
