House Votes Yes on Unemployment Benefits Extension

The shin bone is connected to the knee bone, the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone, well its called the femur, but that doesnt sound as good in the song. Just as everything is connected in our bodies, the same is true of our economic system. The government is connected to public works, investment is connected to employment, employment is connect to the GDP, housing market, consumer spending, quality of life, and numerous other little parts of our system (not sure how that will work for the song though).

So the big debate is whether or not increasing unemployment benefits is helping the job market. It sounds a bit counterintuitive but that is how they are looking at it. How does keeping people comfortable with unemployment benefits help unemployment? I do understand that if there are no jobs people still need to pay the mortgage.

So instead of putting a bunch of money into an abyssal trench, spending more and more money, why not make favorable conditions for employers to hire and pay the same people on the government ticket for doing actual work? If Im not mistaken that could help our economy, GDP, housing market, consumer spending, and overall quality of life. It seems simple to me, but I may be crazy.

Unemployment benefits are supposed to be used as a buffer between jobs not as a way of life. The unemployment benefits have already been extended and now they are being pushed out further and further. If a person is making $10 for sitting at home, why would he or she go and work for $11?

Instead of making it comfortable to stay on unemployment, of course making the president look like a hero to the poor (by keeping them poor, ironically) maybe we should be focusing on how to create favorable conditions for a strong workforce and for entrepreneurs. Just a thought!
