The experts have
spoken and the news is good for homeowners who install solar energy in their
homes.
A group of California economists, in a recent study, found
that on average, homeowners in California who install photovoltaic solar panels
to power their homes can recover nearly all the investment costs if they
move-and that's on top of the annual energy savings." writes Ashlea Eberling on
Forbes.com.
Using utility
data and sales records of homes in San Diego and Sacramento counties
from 2003 through 2010, the panelists found that solar panels added
a $20,194 premium to the sales price of homes.
Colorado, with its
average 245 days a year of sun, is a great place to install solar
energy and given the rapid development of new solar products, solar energy is more affordable and easier
to install than ever before.
The payback is
greater, writes
Ebeling, in a more "liberal community; one with more registered Green Party
members and Toyota Priuses".
So,
a kitchen remodel and a new front door are great improvements, but, depending on your area, homeowners thinking
about installing solar power can do so with peace of mind.
