Prudential's Jan O'Brien says most real estate brokers do not get WEB 2.0

BrokerIPTV: Hey everybody. It is Brian Brady here at the BloodHoundBlog Unchained social media marketing conference sponsored by zillow.com, hosted by BrokerIPTV, and my guest is Jan O'Brien from Prudential Americana real estate in Las Vegas, Nevada. You have been here for a day-and-a-half Jan, what can you tell me so far?

Jan O'Brien : You know this has been everything I hoped for and a lot more.

BrokerIPTV: That is good. What were you hoping for you in the front?

Jan O'Brien : Well, honestly, I came, I was very excited to come and be with a group of people who I have actually met online and that always happens when you come to these kinds of events. I feel like I know you just because I follow your information on your blog on ActiveRain and other things.

BrokerIPTV: And I know you from reading your post last night, so this is kismet that we have met.

Jan O'Brien : So, I really hope to make this is so new for a lot of people. I feel like I have been doing it for about a year-and-a-half. It is great to get with people who are like minded and get new ideas and get fired up and get inspired. In fact, I just got inspired, Brian just did a talk on The Way of the Hunter and he shared a whole bunch of his tips for social networking.

BrokerIPTV: Jan, you are a general manager. Is that like the broker and the boss?

Jan O'Brien : I run the offices and actually I teach the real estate classes.

BrokerIPTV: A boss in real estate grasping Web 2.0, this is news breaking.

Jan O'Brien : Yeah, honestly, but I got to tell you it is tough. It is tough because it is like dragging people to it. So, I look for the folks that are into it. So, I teach a CE class on it in Las Vegas and honestly, it is slow going Brian. You know what I am talking about. There is a small amount of people who are really into this, but I think a lot of people know they want to know about it, they just don't kind of get started with it.

BrokerIPTV: So, what are you going to do in Las Vegas, Nevada - some practical things you have learned today. What are you going to do from what you learned this morning?

Jan O'Brien: One of the things I am going to do is take your advice and join meetup.com and start a bloggers group. Just there is not one. I happened to be checking that out live while you were talking about it today and I think it is a huge opportunity for maybe to get people to together who might be looking for that. I checked out to see if there is a writers group and there is, but it is for writing novels and that is not.

BrokerIPTV: No, no, we do not want writers, bloggers group, there is a difference.

Jan O'Brien: Bloggers group and there is not one. There is not one, so I am going to start it. In fact I am going to start it now, I have already started the sign up portal right here.

BrokerIPTV: So, you have heard it here on BrokerIPTV. If you were a blogger in Las Vegas Nevada, and you got to meetup.com, you are going to run across Jan O'Brien and Jan O'Brien has got a MeetUp group. This is a chance, right now in the Web 2.0 world to get engaged and get contact. What else might you do?

Jan O'Brien: I actually, I have already started to implement a lot of things I learned yesterday with Mary McKnight and Laurie and Ron. I was immediately doing it. I was actually changing things that they were talking about on my blog so that I could really improve my efficiency on the blog.
