Mark Eibner: This is Mark Eibner with Brokers IPTV. We are at this year's Inman Connect at San Francisco and I am
here today with Jay Thompson and Jay has just been awarded the most innovative blog
site by Inman and congratulations Jay.
Jay Thompson: Thanks I appreciate it,
Mark Eibner: It is a pretty high honor.
Jay Thompson: It is a high honor, I was, it was honor just
to be nominated, so I didn't expect to win, so when my name flashed up I was
like wow [Inaudible].
Mark Eibner: So what can you share with our viewers out
there?
Jay Thompson: Some of the real benefits of blogging that I
think a lot of people just don't appreciate yet. I think you probably in my opinion real
estate is a very personal industry or its people industry face to face, belly
to belly and a blog at least for me is the single best way to get your personality
out on Internet and the Internet is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so
in markets for you worldwide 24/7, you can be there.
Mark Eibner: So how long have you been blogging then
yourself personally?
Jay Thompson: It was four years ago in May so four and a
half years roughly.
Mark Eibner: So when you are turn again Internet time.
Jay Thompson: In particularly in real estate blogging and
times like dog years that's a long time it was not the first by any stretch of
imagination but when I started you had to look really hard to real estate blog and
now there is hundreds, thousands I don't know how many there are but there is a
lot.
Mark Eibner: So how many times a day do you use your blog
personally, do you use Facebook personally and Twitter [Inaudible] what's your breakdown
each day and your time up for social media?
Jay Thompson: The blog comes first absolutely. i am not a Facebooker to be perfectly honest,
I have a Facebook page and profile obviously, spend probably too much time on
Twitter ask my wife, she will tell you or the Twitter for me is its kind of its
on the side you know it's a multitasking thing.
I have two monitor set up and my Twitter point is at bottom monitor for
my Twitter point let's put that [Inaudible] is and so let's stay upon the side
wall I am working on the main screen. So
when things pop up just kind of coincide and [Inaudible]. So its kind of an ongoing real time kind of
thing, blogging... I probably spend two hours a day and that's not just writing
that's reading of the blogs researching and thinking about what to write.
Mark Eibner: Content development.
Jay Thompson: That is the good way to put it.
Mark Eibner: So any tips out there for people that are
just starting their blog in their blog thinking about giving up blogging
etcetera?
Jay Thompson: Probably the best thing that you can do, you
have to be patient okay you can't start a blog today and expect the phone to ring
tomorrow, its not going to happen its like any other form of prospect any
traditional prospect post cards, flyers [Inaudible] knocking all that stuff takes time and
you know the big sales trainers will tell you, you have to [Inaudible] up for
six months or a year before you start to see your return its kind of the same
thing with blogging, its not a magic field, its not instant overnight success
but if you are consistent and right quality content you don't have to the
world's greatest writer but just produce consistently in it and it works.
Mark Eibner: Great, and the website again is [Inaudible]
for your blog?
Jay Thompson: Phoenixrealestateguy.com.
Mark Eibner: And at the back, here we go look at that,
thanks Jay.
Jay Thompson: Thank you.
