Mary McKnight provides some great advice for your blog by using .gov and .edu sites to comment or post on.
BrokerIPTV: Live from BloodHoundBlog's Unchained event
here in Phoenix, Arizona at the Heard Museum and I have Mary McKnight from RSS Pieces
and Mary, we heard Greg Swann's great info this morning talking about how Web 2.0
is really already started to unravel the real estate industry. I heard you talking today and maybe you could
give us one tip that kind of relates to that Web 2.0 world and a take away for brokers you have from yesterday and this morning
already.
Mary McKnight: Absolutely. I think social networking is important, but I
think you have to do it smart. I don't
want people spending their entire day out there in ActiveRain commenting on
other people's blogs. I think that that is
not valuable to you because most of your business doesn't come through
referrals anyway. So, what you need to
do is partition your time, decide that you only want to spend 10% of that... of
your marketing time devoted to commenting on other blogs, to network with other
realtors, simply because maybe you only want about 10% of your business, your
overall business, to be referrals in the first place. So, be smart, partition your time, make a
decision that the rest of that time the other 90% is going to be out there to
focus on consumers.
BrokerIPTV: So, what type of sites because I know Greg Swann talked
about peeing on trees, he talked about Trulia, Zillow, LinkedIn, and what type
of sites should agents actually be at, leaving comments, and then leaving... not
advertising themselves, but leaving comments in the websites so we create some
valuable links.
Mary McKnight: And it is not just about valuable links, it
is about where are consumers? The
consumers are at Zillow and Trulia, possibly read them. They are at realtor.com. You need to go to the places where the
consumers are at. Yahoo Answers is a
great place in terms of building back links.
You know you don't even have to stay in real estate, go local, find high
page ranked sites, go to dot .edu links, go
to dot .gov sites, go to the Harvard blogs[Phonetic] comment over there. Get yourselves high quality .edu and dot .gov links,
high page ranked links, that is what counts.
BrokerIPTV: And we find these links, you basically go and
do a post, make a comment, right?
Mary McKnight: Exactly.
BrokerIPTV: And they are going to ask for your name and
they are going to ask for your webpage.
Mary McKnight: Indeed and that is how you are going to get
the back link and the interesting thing is, Yahoo counts all that links. Yahoo does not follow the no follow tag. So, the fact is you are going to see a lot
more links in Yahoo and you might get a lot more results through that.
BrokerIPTV: Interesting. Well, thank you very much Mary and I will let
you get back into the event.
Mary McKnight: Thank you very much Mark.
