Something people didnt like about the Internet a few years ago, and maybe even today, is that its so impersonal. That is still true, but not as much as it was. The way people succeed in business and social networking is to get personal. You cant just have a computer program list posts for you and presto, you get customers and generate a social network. You have to talk, or chat, with people online, you have to make comments on their posts, and reply to their comments on your posts, you have to personify your brand.
Just like with old fashioned face to face socializing, you never know how you and your network of friends and acquaintances will need each other in the future. Social networking in the Internet has become the same thing. Linkedin and other social networking sites connect people of like minds, making it more likely that you will have things in common and possibly have common goals.
If you want your car fixed you can always look up a mechanic in the phone book, but you feel so much better if you have your car worked on by someone you know and trust, a mechanic you have gone to in the past or someone who has been referred to you by a friend. Its also the same on the Internet. When you are looking to have something done and you turn to the Internet, you always try to go with someone you know or trust, or even have had some personal interaction with.
