Carol Schick owner of Guardian Advisory Services is talking about the benefits of pre-paid legal services for real estate brokers and how it can provide GAP coverage for errors and omissions insurance
BrokerIPTV : Today we are talking with Carol Schick, owner of Guardian Advisory Services [phonetic] and Carol thanks for being with us. You sell insurance legal plans pertaining to realtors. First what is that and why would a realtor be interested in that?
Carol Schick: Ok, first of all thank you for inviting me. This is such a pleasure. Yes, I do sell plans for our realtors as well as other industries that to fix rather. Why would the realtors be interested in that? Realtors have a lot of areas in their business such as they need legal advice. They go consultation, possibly just telephone calls. They need contact and document review, they may even need some, possibly if they are in a legal situations, such as loss that they may need assistance with that and those are just some of the areas that our legal plans cover for the realtors and brokers in the Denver area.
BrokerIPTV : How does the plan work?
Carol Schick: The way the plan works is, they contact somebody such as myself, there are lot of associates such as I. we represent we market for New York Stock Exchange company based out of Oklahoma and also New York and they basically contact one of us and sign up for a plan, just like you with a car policy or an auto life insurance policy or something of that nature.
BrokerIPTV : So, you pay a premium into this plan, type of thing?
Carol Schick: You pay a monthly premium into the plan.
BrokerIPTV : And then that covers you for X amount of legal services that you may need?
Carol Schick: Exactly. We have several different types of plan and in each plan basically if they can be customized is that you and if you need legal advice, legal counsel, phone calls, contact review whatever that may be, that will cover you on the plan as far as a prepaid plan.
BrokerIPTV : What are the some of the hot button issues that realtors are talking to you about?
Carol Schick: Funny, you should say that. I just spoke with someone this morning our biggest problem that appears is disclosure. The new things that they are going to now have to disclose as something very different that was just brought out in evidently. So, meeting is just this morning. So, disclosure is going to be something very different than what they have to deal within the past and in order to know exactly what to do, do they need to have somebody, probably on the legal side in that expertise for them to make sure they are doing everything correctly by the law.
BrokerIPTV : So, imagine if they call my attorney after that. So, if an agent is in a brokerage firm and the brokerage firm has legal counsel. Does it make sense for them to still have a legal plan?
Carol Schick: It does make a lot of sense, because we actually in our business we have a lot of folks that are in real-estate industry and rather than may be talking to the in-house counselor, may be even some of them have attorney on retainer. They can basically pickup the phone for the small price of the plan and call the attorney and get advice without being charged an additional fee.
BrokerIPTV : Is this something thats affordable?
Carol Schick: Yes, this is something thats very affordable.
BrokerIPTV : You got a range?
Carol Schick: I have got a range. Our legal plan start at anywhere from $16 a month and then we go up to a full business plan, if they are actually looking at something as a business owner for $50 to $125 a month.
BrokerIPTV : Well, that is affordable.
Carol Schick: That is very affordable.
