Today, people have a lot of options for how they shop and with whom they do business with. People tend to shop around for their product or service, and with the internet, there are a lot of place to shop. However, even in our modern age we still tend to trust the word or referral of a friend, family member or colleague. I myself have shopped for weeks for a service and then ultimately decided on a company a trusted friend recommended. There is somehow validity in a recommendation or referral.
When you put the referral into perspective and you start realizing that you are the one being referred, you start to appreciate the process a bit more. Especially when you understand that people dont have to refer you to anyone and its actually a privilege to be trusted so much that a person would recommend you to their beloved family.
There are many things to keep in mind before you get referred and things to do after you get referred. Once you get the referral you should treat it with a certain amount of respect and make sure to do a good job. And in the process make sure you build relationships, are reliable, understand your customer and relate to them. There many things you can also do to position your self in a place where you will naturally obtain more referrals.
