According to the US Census Bureau, 30 percent of American adults are now
doubling up to make living more affordable.
"That's at a rate not seen since the depression." reports Alicia Acuna
in a report on Fox 31 News. "And finding an apartment is no treat either."
With rents going up in Denver, many landlords are raising the rent,
forcing many to look for a new place.
Vacancies statewide are at an all-time low. "Finding a place to rent in
Denver is getting harder, and pricier." Says Ryan McMaken of the Colorado
Division of Housing.
Large metro areas across the country saw rent increases in the fourth
quarter of 2011. Ron Throupe of the University of Denver says that there have
not been many new apartment complexes built and this has resulted in a shortage
when more people were forced to rent instead of buy.
