Send Photos Wirelessly from your Digital Camera

New technology brings wireless capabilities to your digital cameraEye-Fi is the world's first wireless memory card that fits into your camera's SD card slot, connecting your digital camera to a mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.

This allows users to enjoy the quality of their digital camera with the connectivity of mobile devices.

Eye-Fi Wireless Card"The Eye-Fi Mobile X2 card can now establish a direct connection to the mobile device by creating its own Wi-Fi network anywhere users capture memories, even if that is miles from a Wi-Fi hotspot." claims the website, "Whether they are hiking or at the beach, consumers can now send photos and videos directly from their digital camera to the Eye-Fi app on their smartphone or tablet, enabling them to back up, edit and share their memories in the moment."

The makers of Eye-Fi have now introduced Direct Mode with benefits that extend beyond device to device transfers. "Whether users want to edit their memories using the myriad of apps on their mobile devices, back them up on their home computer, or save them in a private Eye-Fi account, they now have the flexibility and control of where, how and when the media is stored, edited and shared."

The applications for real estate are obvious, digital cameras take better, higher quality pictures than mobile devices, which can be sent to clients on the spot or to the office to be used in marketing materials.

The Eye-Fi X2 mobile card is available at Apple and Best Buy for $79.99 and Direct Mode is a free upgrade to all users along with an accompanying app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

I think the $30 is only to upgrade a card that doesn't come with geotagging included. Which I think is all except the cheapest one, though I'm not sure.

Honestly, I've read their web page, but I don't understand how well the whole WPS system works, or even how it can. Anyone who uses this please comment. I'm interested.

Finally, the Eye-Fi becomes more than just kinda-useful when you have a connection to a hotspot laying around, though I find it funny that it's 2011 and camera manufacturers still haven't fully embraced geotagging as a native feature in all cameras.
