Show and Tell your Business Story

Youth Videographer Training January 2012Online video is the perfect medium to tell the story of your business and the people in it.  Video engages viewers and makes a bigger impression on potential customers than written words alone.

YouTube is the second largest search engine, after Google.  Why?  Over 100 million Americans now watch videos online each day, up 43% from 73.7 million in 2010, according to comScore's  2012 US Digital Future In Focus report.

When searching for a service,  86% percent of consumers start their search online and 17 billion searches were conducted in January 2012.  Search engines are an essential part of everyone's lives.

Video puts a human face on your business, says Amanda Dhalla on Videocommerce.org.  "With a human face and voice behind a brand, it makes it easier for shoppers see the brand as a company that they'd like to do business with, whether immediately or sometime down the road."

Sharing your video on social media websites is an important part of driving traffic to your site.  "In the past 6 months or so, both (Microsoft's search engine) BING and Google have confirmed that they're looking at Facebook "likes", and Twitter "retweets," to influence ranking in organic search." says Mark Robertson, a video SEO expert.

So, what kind of video is best?  Do a "behind the scenes" video of your company.   Show the viewer who you are and what your company is all about.  Give a little history of why you got into the business and what your areas of expertise are. Are you involved in community service projects?  Show video footage of your latest project, including the people in your company.

Develop a story for your brand in order to connect with your customers.  Video is a great way to deliver a valuable and compelling message.  Identify your message and incorporate this into your marketing strategy.

Video is a great tool to tell the story about your community, local businesses, your success stories and, of course, your listings.

"Video marketing is not going away," says Robertson.  He advises business owners to think about video as an overall business strategy and a necessary investment in your business.
