Aha! Ever wonder why certain emails get kicked to your
spam folder?
Well, Google just announced
that it will start showing a short explanation at the top of each message sent
to your spam folder in your Gmail account. This information will tell you why
the message is in your spam folder and whether it contains potentially harmful
content. Now, THIS will be useful!
"Needless to say, it will also
be useful information for email marketers." writes
Robin Wauters on The Next Web.com. Testing
this system and following specific Google guidelines will help your marketing
message get through to more inboxes.

Google's Spam Mail explanations will
include these areas:
- Phishing Scams: "Some
spammers send fraudulent messages that try to trick you into sharing personal
information like passwords or credit card numbers. This practice is called phishing." writes
Google.
- Messages from an unconfirmed Sender: Google
tries to verify the sender to help protect you using email
authentication. Google offers bulk
sender guidelines if you are the sending domain to make sure your message
doesn't get sent to the spam folder.
- Messages that you have marked as
Spam:
"After you report spam for several messages from the same sender,
our system will learn from your behavior and might continue placing that
sender's messages to Spam even if you don't specifically report them." says Google.
- Similarity
to suspicious messages:
Gmail analyzes patterns in messages to detect spam, such as content with
mature content and "get rich quick' schemes.
